ROBLE REY
Royal Oak. High on a hill in Harvey Bear State Park just east of Gilroy, California a gnarly old oak stands watch over a winter sunset. One can only imagine the thousands of sunsets it has watched over and the incredible beauty it has beheld. It seemed only too appropriate that the image of this royal tree be silhouetted in the royal color of purple.
I was born and raised in California, fourth generation. But eventually gave in to the call of the wilds of Montana. Frequently asked “Don’t you miss California?” I would, for many years, respond in the negative. But, I have come to learn there is something I do miss about California and it is the golden, rolling hills dotted with royal oaks. There is a beauty about them not to be found anywhere else in this world.
